Sonnet 29 Essays (278 words) - Sonnet 1, Sonnet, Sonnet 3, Sonnet 5

Poem 29 Burglarize Benkovic Mrs. Stahl Period 8 5/8/00 Elucidation of Sonnet 29 The peruser can discover Shakespeares problem in the initial two verses. His concern is very clear: he is desolate and discouraged. As a pariah of society, he feels unfortunate and believes that there is no expectation for him. Not even God can support him. Cash and wealth he doesn't want; all he requests is to be enjoyed by others. He additionally respects different mens composing ability and information, which he believes he doesn't have. Shakespeare offers the answer for his concern in the third and fourth refrain. Recounting the man to whom he composes this work to, Shakespeare says that when he feels despondent, he can look toward him. At the point when he views the man, it causes him to feel total. Like the winged creature that wakes ahead of schedule to sing to the sky, the man appears to wash away Shakespeares anguish and wretchedness. This piece is an ideal case of an English Sonnet, described by three quatrains followed by a solitary couplet. The end rhyme in such pieces is as per the following: ABABCDCDEFEFGG. The meter in this particular poem, generally, is predictable rhyming. In any case, lines 3, 9, and 11 incorporate an additional syllable. The creator utilizes comparison in lines 4, 5, and 11. In line 11, break of day can be named a dead representation. The main sound similarity found in this Sonnet is in line 7: keeps an eye on craftsmanship and that keeps an eye on scope,. There is likewise one line that shows consonance, it is line 9: Yet in these musings myself nearly detesting,. Shakespeare Essays

It used to be that kid met young lady and they traded telephone numbers. They talked and conversed with companions, if all went well a date was orchestrated. Messaging mitigates the dangers of early disappointment and takes out those stunning snapshots of quietness. Fundamentally individuals want to content in light of the fact that nobody needs to be dismissed, it would make everything clumsy, that is the reason we hand-off on messaging since its a straightforward method of discovering sentiment. Taking cover behind the shroud of computerized content and spell-check to introduce prevalent forms of ourselves. We some of the time star Jet our selves as better individuals when we message. With spell check it makes individuals increasingly predominant. Like what Ashton said A manually written letter is more prominent than any time in recent memory. Its own and conscious and implies in excess of an email or content ever will. It shows our blemishes. A written by hand letter implies all the more then anything advanced. It shows the individual your imperfections the eagerness to look absurd, the boldness to state, This is me, and Im keen on you enough to show you my blemishes. All around put by Ashton. Different investigations have indicated that the normal man utilizes about alf the same number of words every day as ladies, along these lines instant message. I was shocked to he about this investigation, its insane how messaging has taken over everyones public activity. As said in a CNN article six billion. SMS are sent ordinary and 8. 6 trillion every year as said by Portio Research. What's more, this number is developing. I concur with Ashton, messaging is or has just murdered sentiment. We transfer for the most part on our telephon es to meet individuals and converse with them as opposed to meeting eye to eye. Let's be honest Texting has murdered sentiment.

What Are Good Writing - 850 Words

What exactly is good writing? Can anyone answer that, and be certain that their definition is the correct definition of what good writing is? We all have our own conceptions and misconceptions about what makes a book, an article, a paper, or any type of writing material â€Å"good.† Everyone can have their own definition of a good writer, but a good writer to me is someone who can inspire, persuade, entertain, and someone who can leave their audience with something to consider or think about. I did a lot of reading and writing in high school and I learned the ins and outs of writing a â€Å"good† paper. I was taught numerous literacy concepts, and I was expected to apply these in my papers. I realized that I often felt restricted or prohibited to let my mind wander outside of those concepts. Instead of thinking about the content or purpose of my writing, I thought about format, grammar, transitions, etc. All of these rules and concepts that I was taught and expected to use had me overwhelmed. I felt as if everyone’s paper sounded the same since we all had to apply the same rules. There was no variety. Essay about The Great Depression in the United States

The era of the 1930s through the 1940s is one of the darkest periods in America’s history. It was a time of despair for all Americans. This dreadful time was caused by various reasons and hit America when it was least expected. It also had many effects which left an impact on America still up to this day. At that time, there was no abundance of anything: no jobs, no food, and certainly no abundance of money. However, there was surely an abundance of sadness. America had no hope since the money was a thin, green line, and there was no food or clean water to drink. The Dust Bowl was a both manmade and natural disaster. It was a period of rigorous dust storms that significantly damaged Americas agriculture in th e prairies. The Dust Bowl affected over 100,000 acres of land which centered Texas and Oklahoma and parts of Kansas, Colorado, and New Mexico. The droughts and the failure to apply dry-land farming methods to prevent wind erosion caused the dust storms. During the 1920s, farmers deep-plowed the topsoil off of the land. This led to a displacement of deep-rooted grasses that were suppose to trap the soil and moisture. Without the soil and moisture, the dirt was really easy to blow away with just a little wind. The unanchored soil loosened and when the winds blew, the dirt would form clouds that sometimes even blackened the sky. The â€Å"blackened sky† was also known as a black roller or a black blizzard. Cotton farmers left fields bare over winter months when winds were at their highest point, which also loosened up the dirt. Cotton farmers also burned stubble, thinking that it would kill weeds before planting season, but they were also destroying the soil from its organic nut rients and surface vegetation. All of these poor farming methods led to some quite massive dust storms. In Novemeber 11, 1933, a destructive dust storm blew into South Dakota. In May 9, 1934, a strong dust storm hit the Great Plains. Defragmentation in Technology with Concepts in Theoretical...

The purpose of this paper is to juxtapose the idea of ‘Fragmentation’ in technology with concepts in theoretical philosophy. The concept of ‘Fragmentation’ Fragmentation is a technological phenomenon which occurs in computers. The process takes place in the hard disk when a file or data is being deleted or saved or changed. The changes made are being saved at another location, different from the location where the original file is being stored. Additional changes keep getting saved at different locations leading to fragmentation of both the data and the hard disk. Due to this, the computer slows down as it has to locate all broken pieces of a file (or information) and arrange them in an order. Now, hypothetically replace a†¦show more content†¦To simplify this, disk defragmentation brings all the changes to the word file saved at multiple locations to a single location in a certain order and arranges the modification in a matrix. This makes it easier for the computer to locate data faster with more efficiency. It reduces the extra energy and time that is being taken to find the scattered pieces of information. Now, the process of disk defragmentation could be connected to an exercise like meditation. Meditation acts therapeutically as a cure to the inefficiency of the mind. Meditation is a tool used to have a tryst with eternal enlightenment and delete all forms of negative radiations within the peripheries of human mind. Due to fragmentation our ideas, thoughts and judgements are spread in an uneven pattern in our mind and we find it hard to reach a conclusion during unfavourable circumstances and we choose the short-cut of ignoring the problem. But, as we know ignorance can help only in the â€Å"short term†, eventually one has to seek long-term solutions to problems. Reuben Blades has said – â€Å"I think we risk becoming the best informed society that has ever died of ignorance.†Ignorance not only leads to the degradation of a society but also an individual being. The process of meditation is just like disk defragmentation, it re-arranges the thoughts in the matrix of our minds. It keeps all the arguments that self-contradict in the desired order and propriety, making us capable enough to distinguish

Role of Training and Development

Question: Discuss about the Role of Training and Development. Answer: Introduction Agarwal et al. (2016) depict that in order to attain more profitability; every business has to take initiatives to improve their business operations through different aspects. The taxi industry is a new business strategy that provides vehicle facility that takes people from their location to their desired detonation. However, according to the survey it has been found that this disruption formulates three challenges- displacement of legacy, embracing of disruption with open-minded and lack of proper knowledge to overcome this disruption (Singapore Business Review, 2017). All these aspects result in poor performance of the organization and less customer base which on the other hand affects the profitability of the organization. These disruptions in the taxi service can be overcome by giving training to the working personnel of the employee (Channel NewsAsia, 2017). Ho et al. (2017) portray that internal training to the employees can customize the learning to fit business needs and help s in omitting any unnecessary jobs. Moreover, Agarwal et al. (2016) also affirm that employee training enhances the morale of the employee and makes them aware of their current market trends and customers demands. The prime objective of this assessment is to evaluate the disruption adversities of Comfort Transportation Pte Ltd.which can be overcome by providing effective training to their employees along with the outcome of the training. Moreover, the training methods will also be illustrated along with their validity and appropriateness. Training needs analysis and achievement of the business goals Kuruzm and Anafarta (2014) stated that for obtaining correct training needs in working personnel and targeting correct competencies, it is important to formulate a training program. This process is accomplished through a proper design of training need analysis so that training needs of the employee can be clarified. The training process that is considered in this case has eight steps: In this step, the managing authorities of Comfort Transportation Pte Ltd. have to clarify the goals of training and expected business outcomes. The desired business goals are to obtain customer service satisfaction and improve employees morale so that they can serve their best. In this case, it can be noted that the employee got frustrated and refused to provide a ride to the people (Singapore Business Review, 2017). Moreover, they also misbehave with the customer and it results in poor customer services. Thus, it is important to provide training to their employees regarding the behavioral issues and the organizations objectives. Third Step- Identification of the trainable competencies In this aspect, the organization has to evaluate the critical competencies of the employees, whether they had some skills or need training to enhance their job competencies (Ho et al., 2017). Thus, the taxi drivers should learn how to behave good and ethically with their customers. Agarwal et al. (2016) define that in this step, the organizations have to identify where the gap between their performance and the current market demands is present. The human resource of the Comfort Transportation Pte Ltd. can take regular surveys or interviews from their employee to know whether they are aware of the recent trends in their business. On negative outcome, proper training regarding the new business requirement should be provided to the employees. Shrestha (2016) stated that after the survey it could be easily assessed how many people need training in order to obtain desired organizational objectives. After assessing that the major problem occurred for commuter safety, legal and regulatory battles among drivers and the behavioral issues among the taxi drivers. Thus, these objectives should be considered for enhancing the taxi services better so that customer base can be enhanced. Sixth Step- Formulation of the training programs In this step, the appropriate training programs are formulated so that best outcome can be obtained (Hauch et al., 2016). Comfort Transportation Pte Ltd. can provide training to their employee through- mentoring and coaching, on the job training (OJT) and e-learning procedures. However, it should be confirmed by the organization that every candidate qualified for training must have a driving license. The mentors offer training to the drivers regarding the complete workplace orientation/induction procedures, health and safety procedures, instruction and demonstration of driving skills along with the knowledge of safe driving behaviors and application of the safe car driving behaviors. Ziegler (2014) moreover explain that this type of training helps the driver to understand all the theoretical knowledge regarding the taxi services and current market demands. In this phase, drivers are mentored in practical so that it can be used whether they are performing effectively or not (De Grip Sauermann, 2013). The concerned organization can provide on the job training for learning behavioral skills, safety guidance for driving and real-time utilization of the technical knowledge like navigating customers through their smart phones or to book the ride order instantly. In this session, Comfort Transportation Pte Ltd. can show different safety videos and message from driving experts or experiences taxi service employees so that they can make these drivers more knowledge regarding the recent and updated trends of the customers. Seventh Step- Planning for the resource for resource planning Hauch et al. (2016) portray that every organization have to invest some financial resources for organizing a training program for their employees, which is described below: Resources for training Required time / Cost Outcome Training time 1 months Employees will be competent enough to obtain the organizational objectives. Content development time (for mentoring and coaching) 2 Weeks Employees will be aware of theoretical knowledge regarding the taxi services and current market demands. Accommodation $400 All the employees can be included in the training programs Experts and coaches $500 (Fees) All the employee will be able to take Regulation Guidebook copies $250 A copy of the guidebook to all the employee that can make them more knowledgeable regarding the safety legislations Table 1: Training resources (Source: Created by Author) Eight Step- Evaluation of the training progress In this case, the performance of the trainee is evaluated and regular feed should be provided to them so that they can improve their performance as per as the desired training goals. Ziegler (2014) moreover depicts that feedback plays a crucial role not only for the improvement in the performance but it also makes the employee feel that the organization is giving value to them. Conclusion Thus, it is found that Comfort Transportation Pte Ltd. is facing technical problem in their car booking system and the behavioral issues of the drivers. It is hence suggested to provide them training for improving their behavioral aspect and make them learn regarding the utilization of the new technical advances so that they can perform their business performance more efficiently. Bodybuilding free essay sample

Bodybuilding BY adam5701 When a bodybuilder, fitness, figure, or physique competitor begins to prepare for a contest there are so many different variables that go into how you are supposed to train. From personal experience, exercise order has not made a huge impact for the results I was striving to achieve. As long as I do not work the same muscle group within a 48-hour period (since that is the typical recovery time for your muscles to fully repair), I have achieved amazing results. Here are a few other things I highly recommend doing, which if not done properly it almost makes it impossible to ucceed. First hire a reputable coach, I initially made the mistake of taking a shortcut and hired someone because they were cheap which made me place dead last in my first competition. Since then I paid the money and hired someone who knew the ins and outs of competing and it has done wonders for me. A coachs Job is to typically plan out your diet, workout routine, supplementation, posing routine, and best of all its great to have someone else looking at you once or twice a week to see how you change and what else you need to improve on. Yes, I could have done all this on my own but this outside eye makes a huge difference and trying to plan all this out while youre brain dead from dieting can be difficult at times. Next thing is to plan out every little detail in your workout, diet, and sleep schedule for every hour each day. Consistency is a big part of competing and if you are not consistent you will not see any of the results you desire. When attempting to gain muscle mass or density, most people automatically think they have to lift heavy in order to grow. Personally I have found it much more useful o lift at a lower weight with a rep range from 8-20 depending on the exercise. I still see amazing results because each time I do this I make sure I fatigue the muscle and push it until failure. The way I achieve this is by making my rest time between sets and exercises no more than 60 seconds for a single workout, and up to 90 seconds for a drop set (which is starting off with a high weight for a low amount of reps and increasing the reps as you drop the weight, I typically drop the weight about 3-4 times). There was also a study performed where Regardless of the number of reps erformed, the subjects burned 52% more calories when they rested Just 30 seconds between sets as compared to three minutes or more. Working at 10 reps per set burned about 7% more calories than five-rep sets did (Stoppani, Jim, Flex pg. 1). There are also other things I do in order to fatigue my muscle and cause growth, rather than Just focusing on rest time. As shown in my workout plan notes you will notice that my 1 5 to 20 repetition exercises are more towards the beginning of my workout. I have it set up this way because I do not do conventional stretching before orking out since it essentially lowers the amount of weight or reps I can perform. Instead I do these warm up sets of 15 to 20, and this isnt Just light easy rep weight, I make sure its enough to where once I get to those last two reps I feel as if my muscle will give out. This enables blood to flow into the muscles and essentially gets them warmed up and ready for the heavier tasks. Another thing I love incorporating are three workouts of 1 or 2 muscle groups you are training, which I normally choose exercises that are opposite in movement), focus on the time and length of ontraction, and lastly a rest pause (which if I do not perform all 20 reps and only get to 13, I will rest for 20 seconds and complete the remaining 7). Training with these different intensities on random workouts makes a huge difference for strength and muscle gain. The main reason I have found this effective is because I am constantly tearing down my muscle fibers with a different method each workout. Another big thing to think about when training for competitions, or even Just working out in general is to achieve the mind and body connection. My theory on this s that its impossible to workout the muscle you are targeting if you are unable to feel it. In other words an isometric contraction, because any type of muscle growth and performance depend primarily on the neuromuscular system (Yessis pg. 1). A good way to practice would be Just to attempt to flex each individual muscle, which at first is very difficult for someone who is Just starting out. Also doing this between sets for 6-10 seconds can actually promote muscle growth and density. Flexing the targeted muscle(s) between sets lets you know the feeling you want to duplicate during the set. With practice, this will strengthen your focus so you can better work that area (Flex pg. 98). If you talk to almost any bodybuilder or physique athlete, they would be able to make almost any muscle they train contract on its own and will be the first to tell you its extremely difficult to hold. If you continue to train your muscles with these so-tension types of exercises you essentially get them accustomed to being in that position which is crucial for stage presence. If you do not practice this before going onto a stage, you tend to be more susceptible to cramps or its difficult o hold the pose for minutes and points will be deducted from shaking or relaxing on the pose. When training or developing a program, each muscle group needs to be trained for this sport. For me personally I have a few weak areas, which is why my individual workout I train deltoids twice a week and only incline chest workouts on there respected day. Also notice the time spread between the deltoid workouts, its Monday and Friday so I am staying within that time frame for optimal muscle repair. The reason I have so much attention on these two muscle groups are because Judges in hysique competition love the big rounded shoulder look, and a full chest. I have a disadvantage in these areas mainly because I am still only 21 so I dont have fully matured muscles yet, and many other competitors are 24 and above. The only way I compensate for this lack of size is to focus on them more than everyone else. Also for the deltoids I have a day that is more heavy, but still at that 12 rep range and another that goes up to 20 reps known as my day. I find it great to have two different variations for optimal muscle growth, especially since it is a small muscle group and s extremely easy to over stress with too much weight in turn causing injury (which I had when I first began lifting at 18). When training this muscle group I focus on the contraction, as well as the time it takes me to fully go through the concentric and eccentric motion. This method insures for me ensures optimal stress without the risk The sport of fitness competing is always plagued for injury, and there will always be that risk. Basically every muscle you train will be susceptible to injury, and there is no way to get around it. However, there are ways to significantly minimize the risks. Workout form has to be at the top of this list hands down, I see many people training and sometimes I cringe Just watching them because it looks as if they will snap their back or tear a muscle. Always make sure to have great form and control with each exercise, and this in my opinion should be applied to any workout you do not Just resistance training. Second thing would have to be the amount of weight you choose to use. I see so many individuals, guys in particular try to do so much damn weight in order to impress that pretty girl, and in turn end up getting hurt and making a fool ut of themselves. Always keep in mind everyone has to start somewhere, and remember no girl is going to care how much weight you can bench. Also perform exercises that are plausible and not these ridiculous crossflt types of movement exercises. I am sorry, but I am not a firm believer in picking up 2001b from the ground and lifting it over your head. That to me is an instant sign for so many different injuries, and not to mention the trainers instructing you allow you to do it with the most horrendous form. Make sure to stretch before working out with warm up sets to et the blood flow throughout the muscle, and after working out with conventional stretches to increase flexibility. Lastly, mind your peers when training because you in fact can injure someone else. I had an incident with a New Years resolution individual that was doing 801b with dumbbell press, and he decides it is too heavy and Just throws them on the ground and it almost bounced onto my foot, which most likely would have broken it. Now with all that being said there are some freak accidents I have seen people with perfect form and mediocre weight have one of heir muscles Just tear, and it is one of the most painful things to witness. I personally had an incident when I was doing incline dumbbell press with 1001b, I performed the exercise without any issues. However when I set the weights down on my knees to put them down, my wrist Just snapped and made this loud popping noise and it hurt terribly. I have no idea what happened and Just took a break for a few weeks because it was painful to grip anything, and it slowly went away for the most part. Since then I use wrist straps and weight belts to help stabilize those parts of my body, which I have found to help. The goal with this program is not only strength gains, but to basically look the best you can physically. It is not all about size, you want to find a nice balance between size, lean muscle mass, and proportionality for your specific division. The program I have set up is the one I currently use for my offseason training (typically the time when there are no shows for 4-6 months). This specific one is to help me gain size, while retaining majority of my lean muscle mass and density so when I have to prepare for a show I will be able to do so with an 8 week program. While prepping for show a lot of my training changes, and I add a few plyometric workouts in as well as interval cardiovascular training 4-6 days a week depending how far out I am from competing. Any type of cardiovascular training I typically do fasted in the morning, difference personally. There are millions of different workouts for different individuals, this specific one I wouldnt say should be used by every competitor since I conformed it to address my weaknesses. For a basic individual who is intermediately experienced with training, and is trying to look great however this would be a great tarting point.

The Cold War Essays (1423 words) - Presidency Of Harry S. Truman

The Cold War Harry Truman was the 33rd President of the United States from about the end of World War 2 and from the beginning of the Cold War in 1945 until he retired in January, 1952. Harry Truman was born in 1884, in Missouri. In April 1945 Truman assumed office as the President on the death of Franklin D. Roosevelt. From the 16th of July to the 2nd of August the Potsdam conference was held in Potsdam, Berlin. Truman and Stalin and Churchill attended the conference until Churchill was beaten in an election by Atlee and replaced. Truman was worried about this encounter with Stalin as he was not very well informed on him, as Roosevelt had not involved him in political issues therefore he lacked the knowledge on how to handle Stalin. The main issue at the conference was on Germany. They established the principle occupations, which were to de-nazify,de-militerise, de-centeralise de-industrialise and democrasise all of Germany. Germanys reparations were decided. They also established that Germanys future would be jointly worked out, no separate development without consultation of forgien ministers. Also at Potsdam the Polish borders were defined, and Russia agreed entry to the Pacific War. Truman distrusted the Russians before the conference and by the end of the conference in August Truman had developed an even larger distrust towards Russia. He felt the Russians had been given too much at Yalta and he was adopting a harder attitude. He also felt that with the power he held with the Atomic bomb, USSR were under control. The relationship between the superpwers worsened considerably at Potsdam. On the 6th of August 1945 Truman authorised an Atomic bomb to be dropped on Hiroshima, a city in Japan and another in Nagasaki, two days later, they caused horrendous damage, and many thousands of people died. After the bombs were dropped US troops occupied Japan not allowing any other forces in. Truman had told Stalin little about the bomb, first informing him at Potsdam and when he authorised the drop, he had not consulted or warned Stalin, this angered him as he had wanted to gain some Japanese territory before the end of the war and the tension began to build. The rise of two new superpowersdeveloped after the war, the USA and the USSR, both wanting to be the more powerful nation. There was a rising tension between Truman and Stalin, as Truman had a different attitude to the USSR and Stalin than Roosevelt had previously. Roosevelts ideas to give USSR a large post-war reconstruction loans, were dropped by Truman as he was not going to give USSR any economic assistance, as it was a threat to communist expansion. Tension contiued to build through the rest of 1945. When Truman spoke to Molotov the Soviet foreign minister, he did not express any agreement with USSR in having a pro-communist government in Poland. Truman failed to see how important Poland was to USSR, leaving an increasingly angered Stalin. 1945 also saw the beginning of the arms race as USA held the only atomic bombs. In 1946 the USA proposed that the United Nations should assume control of atomic energy and research, but the USSR rejected the proposal on the grounds that this would enable the USA to maintain its monopoly over atomic weapons. Americas sole possesion to the atomic bomb ended in 1949 when the USSR had developed their own atomic bomb. 1947 saw the beginning of the Truman doctrine, its main aim was to assist countries which were threatened by commuist expansion. Truman sent a message to the US congress, pledging American support for free peoples who are resisting attempted subjugation by armed minorities or by outside pressures. (dictionary of 20th centuary...). prompted by the need to give military and economic aid to Greece and Turkey, the Truman doctrine marked a change to positive anti-communism on the part of the administration. On the 5th of June1947 General Marshall, offered American finiancial aid for a programme of European recovery, on a condition that the European countries themselves took the first steps towards economic collaboration. The plan was supprt by the west but the Russian foreign minister,Molotov rejected it. After long consulation the Western powers organised a conference for July 47, the OEEC was

Common Wealth Economics for a Crowded Planet

Common Wealth Economics for a Crowded Planet The book â€Å"Common Wealth: Economics for a Crowded Planet† is written by Jeffrey Sachs, a famous economist from the Columbia University. His work is devoted to the economic problems of our planet and to the global issues in general. The author focuses on the existing threats for the global population in different spheres of life and presents various ways of improving the situation. In this book, both the environmental and human-caused problems are analyzed.Advertising We will write a custom report sample on Common Wealth: Economics for a Crowded Planet specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More According to the author, there is a number of problems which need to be solved in the nearest future. These are overpopulation, poverty, irrational use of natural resources, unhealthy economy, urbanization, environmental crisis, climate change, etc. Sachs illustrates every issue with many considerable examples; what is more, the author gives th e diachronic evaluation of the issues, which means comparison of the situation throughout the flow of time. The main point of the book is showing that all the mentioned problems were caused by humans. The author even mentions the HIPPO term, which stands for the consequences of human activities: Habitat destruction, Invasive species, Pollution, Population increase, and Over-harvesting. Sachs outlines marine fisheries and various species of animals as those most badly affected by humans and proves that the climate change is also a result of human activities. In addition, one of the most important problems outlined by Sachs is proper organization of the world economy and international policy, as far s that the gap between the developed countries and the countries of the third world is expanding gradually. All the statements are supported by numerous statistical data, which makes the author very convincing. Sachs presents a number of solutions for the problems he defined. Firstly, he o ffers four possible policies which can reduce the harm caused to the environment. Among them is taxing the companies which pollute air and water. Secondly, the author describes carbon capture and sequestration or using hybrid cars as a way of preventing the climate change. Thirdly, Sachs points to the need of economizing the water resources. Next, the author mentions lowering the total fertility as a method of halting the population growth. Finally, few phases are presented for countries to go through in order to improve the economical situation in the world. In my opinion, all the raised issues and set goals are very objective and important. The author proved to be very inventive while presenting his ideas about how to overcome the global problems in all the spheres of human life. I liked the idea of abiding the Geneva Convention and the Convention of Biological Diversity, which will help to save the environment with its various species.Advertising Looking for report on bus iness economics? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More Another issue which is very important and is explained in details is overcoming the poverty traps. The author mentions the countries where the violent behavior and high crime level is caused by an extreme poverty. To fight such results, he offers public works projects, increase the number of educational establishments, increase the agriculture productivity etc. I think that these suggestions can and should be implemented in life and that they can serve as an instrument for developing both the healthy economy and healthy thinking of the nation. Besides the mentioned points, however, there are some ideas which seem to be either not realistic or not really helpful. For example, the general overpopulation of the Earth is caused mostly by the countries of the third world, where the demographic situation is uncontrolled by Government. Nowadays, however, many people in Europe, espec ially in developed countries like German prefer being sterilized to having children due to a set of reasons, such as career or dissatisfactory material state. That is why the idea of regulating the population growth seems to be irrational: while some countries indeed need this policy, others may need the reverse program to be implemented. Another issue which I found confusing is preventing the air pollution. Sachs mentions the mechanisms for collecting the carbon dioxide from smoke stacks or straight from the sky. In my point of view, this solution should be developed further, as the gathered substance also needs to be kept somewhere. So is there point in constructing the new buildings for keeping the carbon dioxide inside? In addition, what size should one of such buildings have to be able to keep even a daily amount of the substance produced by one factory? I think that this idea and its effectiveness are rather doubtful. Moreover, although the idea of global economy and cooperati on seems to be effective, Sachs did not take into consideration the fact that it still has to be governed by someone. Even if all the most powerful countries unite in order to help the poorer ones, they still would need a leader who would control their work. As a consequence, such policy can lead to international conflicts.Advertising We will write a custom report sample on Common Wealth: Economics for a Crowded Planet specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More The book †Common Wealth: Economics for a Crowded Planet† by Sachs is an objective critical analysis of the current economical and social situation of the world. Unlike the other books related to the same issues, it is very global and complex. The author manages to cover all the burning issues of the modern world and stick to one fibula. What is more, Sachs doesn’t use any euphemisms to talk about the problems. Being extremely strict and confident, he sounds very convi ncing. This makes the book especially interesting for those who are eager to know the real economical and political situation of the world. All in all, Sachs does not only present a book on Economics, but also gives a detailed analysis of the existing world problems and tries to develop a plan for their solution.

A Beginners Guide to Using Nominalizations in Business Writing

A Beginner's Guide to Using Nominalizations in Business Writing As businesses become more international, so must our writing. Most of the time, good business writing skills transfer very well to global audiences, but there is some confusing vocabulary that global business writers should try to avoid. Avoiding nominalizations Nominalizations are nouns that refer to a process. As a quick reminder, a noun is a person, place, thing, or idea. Nouns are often found as the subject of the sentence: Efficiency is important. But they can also be found as: the object of a verb: This is my or the object of a preposition: Let’s go in the office. Nominalization itself is an example of a nominalization, but more common examples are words like evaporation, condensation, mechanization, and optimization. As you have probably noticed, they often end in –ation/-tion/-ition. These are the types of words often used in science or in highly specialized fields, and they make it easier for us to talk about our fields of expertise. However, they are often difficult to understand for native speakers outside of that field, never mind non-native speakers! So how can we avoid them? Since nominalizations are nouns that refer to a process, there is always a verb hidden inside each one. For example: evaporation – evaporate condensation – condense mechanization – mechanize optimization – optimize hbspt.cta._relativeUrls=true;hbspt.cta.load(41482, '39de76fa-b005-4d0a-9136-a9a423513681', {}); The easiest way to avoid using nominalizations is to rewrite the sentence using the verb of the same meaning. Here is an example: Heating water to the boiling point causes evaporation. vs. Heating water to the boiling point will cause it to evaporate. Even though the second sentence is longer, the use of â€Å"to evaporate† is much clearer for non-native and native speakers alike because the nominalization is less commonly used overall, and â€Å"to† usually alerts readers to a verb. Let’s look at another example, this time with a more involved rewrite: Optimization of our work force is a key goal of our company. vs. Our company wants to optimize our work force. In the first sentence, the actual agent (actor) is unclear – optimization is the subject of the sentence, but optimization doesn’t actually do anything. Our company will be doing the actual action. The revision in the second sentence is much clearer for two reasons: (1) the subject, our company, is the actual agent, and (2) the use of the verb, to optimize, is much easier to identify. As you can see, using nominalizations can lead to more complex writing and can be difficult to understand if the reader is outside the area of expertise. Using the verb hidden inside each nominalization will force you to write more clearly and be more direct. (In case you wondering what the verb hidden in nominalization is, it’s â€Å"nominalize† which means â€Å"to make into a noun.† Unfortunately, even this isn’t very clear, either!) Writing for a global audience is not so different from good business writing. Short, clear, direct sentences help your reader to respond in a timely manner. Kano Model Analysis Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2500 words

Kano Model Analysis - Research Paper Example The major drive has been â€Å"forces of globalization†, which have contributed towards a heightened awareness of the opportunities available for education globally (Morady & Siriner, 2011, p.35). In this sense, Institutions must remain aware of the issues that influence consumer choice of institutions of higher learning because there is a lot of competition for educational services. This is the reason why it is important to research the issues that influence the degree of satisfaction of students, who are the primary consumers of educational services, in the institutions. Structure of the Report This report carries a section that considers theories relevant to the study. It gives way to a discussion of the research method used in this project, its benefits and limitations. The next section concentrates on the findings of the project, which pave way for the concluding remarks, which include a set of recommendations. Chapter I - Theory The study of consumer satisfaction falls i n the same general academic field that includes behavioural sciences, human psychology and consumer sciences. As with many other academic disciplines, there is no consensus on a single definition of consumer satisfaction. Giese and Cote (2002) summarized three basic areas that most of the definitions of consumer satisfaction cover as follows, 1) Consumer satisfaction is a response (emotional or cognitive); 2) the response pertains to a particular focus (expectations, product, consumption experience, etc.); and 3) the response occurs at a particular time (after consumption, after choice, based on accumulated experience, etc) (p.1). This summary sufficed for the needs of this research project because it captured the issues that the project sought to... The study pave way for the following conclusions which aim at providing the managers of institutions of higher learning with the information they need to improve customer satisfaction in their premises. The paper also makes appropriate recommendations: 1. Students value good lighting in their lecture rooms hence the management should always ensure that buildings incorporate natural lighting. This will increase customer satisfaction in the facilities. 2. Management must resist the urge to increase the number of students in the classes because there is a significant association of comfortable sitting space with a satisfying experience in the lecture halls. 3. Apart from the necessary equipment for air conditioning, there is diminishing value in investing in sophisticated temperature control equipment. The perceived value of comfortable temperature diminishes soon after the environment is comfortable. In this sense, institutional managers should not spend anything more than is necessary for temperature control. 4. Background music does not add much value to the overall satisfaction of students. Institutions should therefore avoid investing in this service because it is not worth it. This research project focused on the conditions of the buildings and lecture halls. Therefore, it is incomplete as a measure of the overall satisfaction of students in higher education institutions. There is need for further research that will capture the indices relating to social services and service delivery to capture the full spectrum of issues that affect the satisfaction of students in the institutions of higher learning.

Dell Computers :: essays research papers

At age 13, Michael Dell was running a mail-order stamp-trading business, complete with a national catalog, and grossing $2,000 per month. At 16, he was selling subscriptions to the Houston Post. He enrolled at the University of Texas in 1983 as a premed student but soon became absorbed in computers and started selling PC parts out of his college dorm room. He bought random-access memory (RAM) chips and disk drives for IBM PCs at cost from IBM dealers, who often had excess supplies on hand because they were required to order large monthly quotas from IBM. Dell resold the components through newspaper ads at 10-15 percent below the regular retail price. By April 1984 sales were running about $80,000 per month. Dell dropped out of college and formed a company, PCs Ltd., to sell both PC components and PCs under the brand name PCs Limited. He obtained his PCs by buying retailers' surplus stocks at cost, then powering them up with graphics cards, hard disks, and memory before reselling them. His strategy was to sell directly to end users; by eliminating the retail markup, Dell's new company was able to sell IBM clones at about 40 percent below the price of an IBM PC. The price discounting strategy was successful, attracting price-conscious buyers and producing rapid growth. By 1985, the company was assembling its own PC designs with a few people. The company had 40 employees, and Michael Dell worked 18-hour days. By the end of fiscal 1986, sales had reached $33 million. During the next several years, however, PCs Ltd. was hampered by a lack of money, people, and resources. Michael Dell sought to refine the company's business model, add needed production capacity, and build a bigger, deeper management staff and corporate infrastructure while at the same time keeping costs low. The company was renamed Dell Computer in 1987, and the first international offices were opened that same year. In 1988 Dell added a sales force to serve large customers, began selling to government agencies, and became a public company ¡Xraising $34.2 million in its first offering of common stock. Sales to large customers quickly became the main part of Dell's business. By 1990 Dell Computer had sales of $388 million, a market share of 2-3 percent, and an R&D staff of over 150 people. Michael Dell's vision was for Dell Computer to become one of the top three PC companies.

Analysis on Causes and Symptoms of Job Stress in the Workplace

Job stress poses a significant threat to employee health and consequently to the health of an organization. This report will provide information on the causes of stress, the resulting symptoms, the consequences to employers, and the programs employers can implement to reduce the adverse effects of stress in the workplace. It is important for both employees and employers to recognize and understand stress and its causes. Often times employers confuse job challenges and job stressors. Most employees view a job challenge as a motivating factor, which enables them to grow within their positions. This motivation has the potential to produce positive results for both employees and employers. However, when challenges become demands, employees often resort to the fight or flight response of our primal ancestors. At the sight of a dangerous encounter, the hypothalamus sends a message to the adrenal glands and within seconds the heart is pumping at two or three times the normal speed, sending blood to the major muscle groups with soaring blood pressure. In most cases, the employee does not have the opportunity to fight or flee, and as a result the increased energy is internalized and over time manifests itself as stress. Stress is not an illness, however prolonged exposure to stressful conditions can increase the risk of injury or disease. According to the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health ( ¡Ã‚ §NIOSH ¡), job stress can be defined as â€Å"the harmful physical and emotional responses that occur when the requirements of the job do not match the capabilities, resources, or needs of the employee†. For instance, management style, interpersonal relationships, work roles, career concerns, work-life issues, sociocultural atmosphere, and environmental conditions may all be considered stressors. The following illustrations represent extreme cases, but a common thread between all of the examples is lack of communication, lack of resources, and lack of control. Typically, people are affected by an assortment of these stressors and at a variety of levels. Many employees suffer from stress caused by managers who expect results without establishing clear goals. An example would be an office head that is responsible for increasing profitability and decreasing overhead, without receiving a budget from the home office. At the end of the year, the office head's performance cannot be considered objectively. Consequently, his or her incentive compensation becomes subjective. Interpersonal Relationships In many organizations, workers have little decision-making power. For example, a customer service representative is responsible for fielding incoming calls. Inevitably, the calls are primarily from angry customers concerned about a late shipment. The representative has no control over the shipping department and in fact has virtually no communication with that department. After listening to the customer's complaints over a period of time, the representative has several suggestions which management could implement in the shipping department that may improve customer satisfaction. Unfortunately, management is not interested in the ideas of a customer service representative. And as a result, the representative is attacked daily by angry customers whose concerns could have been prevented. Work Roles Some employees suffer from stress caused by excess responsibility and a shortage of time. An example of which might be a salesperson who has a broad scope of responsibilities with little support and a full travel schedule. In many instances, the salesperson is unable to meet unrealistic reporting deadlines because of excessive travel. Career Concerns Other employees may stress about an impending reorganization and its potential consequences. For example, management hires a consulting firm to evaluate departmental effectiveness and profitability. The employees may feel that management views their work as substandard and is formulating a reduction in forces plan which could ultimately affect their jobs. Work-Life Issues Often workplace stress is caused by balancing personal and professional responsibilities. For example, a nurse who also has to care for an aging, dependant parent. Sociocultural Atmosphere Some employees are subjected to an atmosphere of gender bias and/or sexual harassment. For example, a woman works as a real estate broker, which is a male-dominated field. She is constantly subjected to sexual innuendo. She is even made to look incompetent in client meetings by her male counterparts who ask ridiculous and irrelevant questions. Environmental Conditions Employees are required to perform in adverse working conditions which often cause signs of stress. For instance, a mill worker is subjected to the constant humming of machines. Repeated exposure to stressful situations such as those mentioned above often cause symptoms such as difficulty concentrating, sleep disturbances, irritability, and boredom. Other warning signs may include upset stomach, job dissatisfaction, muscle tension, and low morale. Studies have shown that stress in the workplace has been linked to some of the leading causes of death, including heart disease, cancer, lung ailments, workplace accidents, cirrhosis, and suicide. According to the Encyclopedia of Occupational Safety and Health, studies suggest that psychologically demanding jobs which allow employees little control over work process increase the risk of cardiovascular disease. It is also widely believed that job stress produces an increased risk of back and upper extremity musculoskeletal disorders. Furthermore, several studies suggest that a variety of mental health problems, from burnout to depression, have been linked to job stress. Although more studies are needed, it has become a mounting concern that on-the-job injuries are on the rise due to job related stress. According to the Journal of Occupations and Environmental Medicine, healthcare expenditures are nearly 50% greater for workers who report high levels of stress. Furthermore, the American Institute of Stress estimates that more than 75% of all doctor visits are for stress-related complaints or disorders. People also spent nearly $11 billion last year on stress management programs, products and services. Although stress poses a variety of health concerns to individuals, organizations also suffer its consequences. According to the National Safety Council, it is estimated that one million workers are absent on an average workday because of stress related complaints. Furthermore, to the American Institute of Stress reports that 40 percent of employee turnover is related to job tension. A study published in the Journal of Group Dynamics: Theory, Research, and Practice, found that when workers are under stress, they tend to lose their group perspective and focus on their own personal goals to the detriment of their colleagues. In a study of 100 naval personnel, each three-member group was subjected to a decision-making task simulation under varying stressful conditions. As expected, those operating under the highest level of stress performed worse than those operating under normal circumstances. Furthermore, the study indicated that the higher the stress level, the subject acted from a more individual perspective, which ultimately deteriorated team performance. In addition, the 1995 Workers Compensation Yearbook reports: In 1960, a Michigan court upheld a compensation claim by an automotive assembly-line worker who had difficulty keeping up with the pressures of the production line. To avoid falling behind, he tried to work on several assemblies at the same time and often got parts mixed up. As a result, he was subjected to repeated criticism from the foreman. Eventually, he suffered psychological breakdown. By 1995, nearly one-half of the States allowed worker compensation claims for emotional disorders and disability due to stress on the job [note, however, that courts are reluctant to uphold claims for what can be considered ordinary working conditions or just hard work] (NIOSH). Given that job stress is estimated to cost U. S. industry $300 billion annually as assessed by absenteeism, diminished productivity, employee turnover, and consequently legal fees and insurance premiums, it is important for employers to implement programs that promote a low stress atmosphere in the workplace. The American Psychologists Association recommends the following organizational changes to help prevent job stress:    Other elements of a healthy company include open communication, employee involvement, health-enhancing work environments, community responsibility, and institutional fairness. Many companies have taken a variety steps to promote this type of atmosphere. For example, Harley-Davidson, the Milwaukee-based motorcycle manufacturer, implemented the use of work groups in its Capital Drive plant in 1995. Since then, there has been a â€Å"steady decline in worker's compensation claims† which resulted in higher profits for the company. According to John Gillard, president of PACE Local 7-0209, workers feel they have more control over their jobs because they have a voice in day-to-day operations. Honeywell offers employee assistance counselors and stress management classes. The Leo Burnett advertising agency in Chicago, has a on-site massage therapist once a week, while National Semiconductor of Santa Clara, California provides an on-site fitness center that offers yoga and karate among other things. While some companies suffer the consequences of stress in the workplace, others like Massachusetts based WFD, Inc. (â€Å"WFD†), profit from it. WFD offers innovative services that assist employers in facilitating the needs of their employees thereby producing measurable business results such as customer loyalty and satisfaction, revenues and profits and shareholder value. WFD's services include employee commitment audits, work-life strategy consulting, community investment and dependent care strategy consulting, and workplace flexibility consulting.

Essay on The Physics of a Toilet - 1526 Words

The Physics of a Toilet Almost everyone in America has used, is using at this very moment or will use a flushable, indoor toilet. Their privacy, and in some cases cleanliness, are taken for granted day by day. The basic physics of siphoning, and the right amount of water, makes the toilet operate in our desired fashion. This has been the concept of toilets for over 200 years. Some questions do come to mind when witnessing this event; how does the water and waste get sucked out of the toilet bowl? Why does the water get sucked out in a spinning motion? Does it matter which side of the hemisphere creates a certain trend of spin in the water? These phenomena are more common than one may think, these things happen through a variety†¦show more content†¦The bowl siphon is the one mechanism that makes the flushing feat possible. Its the gooseneck section leading from the toilet bowl to the sewage pipes. According to the online howstuffworks.com, the siphon is Any pipe, hose or tube that is used to move a liquid from a higher location to a lower location. The actual design of the siphon is dependent on the effect caused by it. The function also depends on the amount of water being transferred to the toilet bowl at one given moment. The tank of the toilet contains approximately 2 gallons (7.6 liters) of water, when all of that water is moved to the toilet bowl in a matter of seconds, all of the water going down the pipe creates the siphon effect, sucking everything out of the toilet. If I were to dump a cup of water, or 25 cups (6 liters) of water for that matter, it would not be enough to create the siphon effect. The water would only spill over in the mechanism and drain itself to be level with the highest point of the gooseneck bowl siphon. Doctor Louis A. Bloomfield, at the online site physicscentral.com, explains that the siphon effect works with the combination of water and gravity at their finest. H2O has its own variety of different potential energies.
