What Are Good Writing - 850 Words

What exactly is good writing? Can anyone answer that, and be certain that their definition is the correct definition of what good writing is? We all have our own conceptions and misconceptions about what makes a book, an article, a paper, or any type of writing material â€Å"good.† Everyone can have their own definition of a good writer, but a good writer to me is someone who can inspire, persuade, entertain, and someone who can leave their audience with something to consider or think about. I did a lot of reading and writing in high school and I learned the ins and outs of writing a â€Å"good† paper. I was taught numerous literacy concepts, and I was expected to apply these in my papers. I realized that I often felt restricted or prohibited to let my mind wander outside of those concepts. Instead of thinking about the content or purpose of my writing, I thought about format, grammar, transitions, etc. All of these rules and concepts that I was taught and expected to use had me overwhelmed. I remember thinking, how can I use ALL of these rules in one paper? It felt impossible. In high school I never enjoyed writing, because it was too black and white. I felt as if everyone’s paper sounded the same since we all had to apply the same rules. There was no variety.
